Cellulite can be one of the most difficult skin imperfections to get rid of. Cellulite forms when deep fatty tissues within the skin start to push up on connective tissues causing the “dented” appearance that makes cellulite infamous.

It’s estimated that more than 85 percent of all women 21 years and older have cellulite, according to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Association. So if you suffer from cellulite, at least you can take comfort knowing 85 percent of women share your pain!

What causes cellulite on thighs, arms, and bum?

Cellulite develops most often on your thighs and butt since these areas have more fatty tissues than others. However, it can also develop on other areas on the body such as your arms.

We all know cellulite is pretty frustrating, but when considering your health overall – there really is nothing wrong with it being present. However, we completely understand that most women (and even men) want it GONE!

Massage

One remedy we love is a massage – because who doesn’t love massages?! These can be easily done in your home or professionally depending on what you’re looking for. Massages have multiple body and mind benefits, but we’re going to focus on how it can help reduce cellulite!

Massages can help reduce the appearance of cellulite by helping to fix lymphatic drainage. They help stretch the tissue, which helps to stretch any cellulite out as well. Think of it as when you roll out cookie dough to make it nice and flat!

You can also get similar benefits from massage creams, but the main point to this remedy is the massage itself. So don’t be surprised if you apply lotion and cellulite doesn’t go away!

You’ll also need to note that this is not a one and done treatment, you’ll need to continue the massage process consistently so you can achieve your ideal results. Oh darn, you need multiple massages? We can think of worse things!

Supplements

Supplement manufacturers are famous for promising a quick fix body change, which has made many people wary!

However, a study done by the Journal of Medicinal Food did show an improvement in the reduction of cellulite in women who took bioactive collagen peptides! The supplements were given to women both at healthy and unhealthy weights during a six month period. Throughout the study, there was a noted decrease in thigh cellulite.

Now, this is not us telling you to hop on the quick fix train, but the study did provide interesting results! Naturally, more research needs to be done before this information can be fully supported.

Self-tanners

Tanning in beds is not something we recommend, but self-tanner is a safe, skin-friendly way to help reduce the appearance of cellulite! Since cellulite is generally more visible on lighter skin tones, using self-tanner can help disguise it while also giving you a fun summer glow year round!

Like we stated before, please do not tan in direct sun or in tanning beds. These methods can lead to skin damage like wrinkling and the risk of skin cancer.

Losing weight might seem like the most obvious way to reduce cellulite. However, cellulite does not discriminate based on weight! Even those who are at the recommended weight (or underweight even) can still develop cellulite.

If you are considered medically overweight – losing excess body fat, through exercise and a healthy diet, can help reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Lifestyle changes are your best bet

We wish that there was a fairy godmother that could magically remove cellulite, but unfortunately, she does not exist. According to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, there is no fail-safe way to prevent cellulite from forming.

Cellulite is incredibly common and the risk of it appearing increases with age and lifestyle choices. Just like we can’t poof our cellulite away, we also can’t control aging. But, you can easily change your lifestyle to help reduce your risk!
