How Permanent Is Laser Hair Removal?

It is not permanent. The treatment involves heating the hair follicles, which, in turn, makes the hair follicles dormant for a long period — much longer than waxing or shaving.

Even though the treatment procedures are advertised as a type of “permanent” hair removal treatment, they only reduce the number of unwanted hairs on a given area of the skin — they do not permanently remove unwanted hair.

While you cannot remove 100 percent of all hair follicles, laser hair treatment can reduce the number of hair-producing follicles by 75-90%. According to research, laser treatments are most effective in patients with dark hair and light skin tones — however, they can be used successfully on all skin types.

Have you ever imagined getting rid of unwanted hair without plucking or waxing the hair? Well, that does not have to be an imagination anymore because, at Alite Laser, we offer a full range of hair removal services, including waxing, electrolysis, and laser hair removal service. If you reside in the Austin, TX area, feel free to give us a call. Our clinic consists of specialists who are prepared to take care of your hair removal needs with the highest level of precision.

Is It Worth It?

The treatment is worth it.

First, the procedure does not permanently remove hair from treated areas but will reduce the number of body hairs after they start to grow back.

Second, you can have this done on any part of your body —neck, legs, arms, etc. The fast process only takes about 1 second per pulse, which means you’ll be getting in and out quickly with minimal discomfort!

Frequently Asked Questions

You do not have to have hair on the area before your session. In fact, you will have to shave the area 24 hours before your session, as this will allow the laser to locate the follicle faster.

Interested in learning how laser treatment can reduce hair growth?

Book an appointment with our professional team which is committed to providing long-lasting medical solutions for unwanted hair.

When it comes to the level of pain, the treatment falls between shaving (pain-free) and plucking (ouch! that really hurts). During the session, you may not feel the heat, but you may feel as though the technician is snapping your skin with a rubber band.

You may feel some pain, but how painful the procedure is depends on which body part is undergoing the treatment. You may experience redness and irritation (similar to what you feel after getting sunburned) after the session.

If the hair you want to have treated for hair removal is dark in color and somewhat coarse, you are a good candidate. In general, it needs to be light brown or darker in color. Our laser treatment will not work on blonde, grey, or red hair.

If you are pregnant, we do not recommend laser treatment, though we do offer waxing services in Austin and electrolysis, which are safe for pregnancy.

After your laser treatment, you can expect the hair to shed out from the follicle within 2-3 weeks, after which you will be hairless in the treated area until the next hair growth cycle begins.

Hair regrowth typically resumes below the neck after 6-8 weeks, while facial hair may regrow in about 4-6 weeks. To maintain optimal results, scheduling your next appointment helps ensure finer and reduced hair over time.

While results can vary from person to person and body area to body area, industry standards are anywhere between 6-10 consistent treatments, and most people are happy with their results. All of our laser hair removal machines are classified as permanent hair reduction by FDA standards. After a series of treatments, can expect a dramatic reduction in the amount of hair and texture. However, no treatment can claim to permanently remove hair. Hormonal changes can produce new hair growth. Also, certain medications can cause new hair growth.

Following treatment, you may notice hair resurfacing within a few days to weeks as part of the natural shedding process. Gentle exfoliation with a loofah or rough washcloth can help lift dead hairs from the follicles. Wait until your skin has returned to its original condition before starting these methods, typically within a few days to a week after treatment.

Trust the process and feel free to consult with us for personalized post-care recommendations tailored to your skin and treatment area.
